On April 25, 1962, for a second time within a year of the opening, St. John's new church on 11th Street was a victim of vandalism. Both times the tabernacle was taken by someone looking for money. The first time
it was found broken to pieces by the Western Electric Plant and the second time by the W. F. Wedman farm south of Yukon.

St. John's school was soon to outgrow its needs, too, construction of the present school, cafeteria, and Sisters' convent was started. The new $245,000 St. John's school was completed in 1963 and dedicated by Bishop Reed while Father Mazaika was still pastor. Sister Imelda C.S.T. was the first principal in the new school. Extension volunteers helped to staff the school in the 60's.

Vatican II brought many changes to our parish in the 60's and 70's. Mass said with the priest facing the people, Mass said in English, and people participation in the Mass with congregational singing, fasting for three hours at first, then later for only one hour instead of the usual fast from midnight until you received Holy Communion, removal of the communion rail and the receiving of Holy Communion standing in line, Confession or Sacrament of Reconciliation as it is now called is received face to face with the confessor, parishioners taking part in the Mass by doing the readings, Eucharistic ministers (instructed lay members) giving Holy Communion, name of Extreme Unction changed to Sacrament of the Sick. Change was for the better!

1967 saw Father Elmer C. Robnett as pastor of St. John's. With a new church, school, and convent, a new parish house was soon to follow. In 1968, Mrs. Helen Lawson donated the money for the rectory which was completed the same year. Improvements of the grounds surrounding the new church on 11th Street was a challenge. Under the able guidance of Father Robnett, trees, grass, bushes, and flowers were planted to make St. John's the beautiful landscape it is today.

Ash Wednesday, February 11, 1970, ground was broken for the Bell Shrine.

St. John's first school at 8th and Oak was sold in February 1971 for $40,000 plus interest which was applied to the church debt.

August 12, 1972, Patrick Gaalaas was ordained and said his first Mass on August 13, reception followed.

In 1973, a room was added to the lobby of the church in memory of members of the Kroos family by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kroos and Mr. Joe Kroos.

In 1972, Bible School for the summer was once again introduced under the direction of Father Robnett and coordinator Helen McKinney. With our parish growing by leaps and bounds, a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program was started in 1971. Taught weekly by parish volunteers under the direction of Father Robnett and parish religious coordinator Helen McKinney. Programs offered were adult religion classes, religion for preschool through 12th grades, Baptismal preparation program, marriage and family. One hundred and six students attended Bible School the summer of 1974.

In 1975, Father Elmer C. Schwarz was appointed by Archbishop John Quinn as pastor of St. John's. Also that year, August 31, 1975, Sister Maria Francesca Forst C.S.T. celebrated her Silver Jubilee as a Carmelite Sister. Sister has served as principal at St. John's.

On November 23, 1975, fire was discovered in St. John's church lobby. Thanks to alert church goers, damage was minimal. Fire, due to electrical malfunction, was in the rafters, plus water damage to the interior and carpeting. Fire began after the 8:00 a.m. Mass.

January 1976, a Knights of Columbus council was organized at St. John's.

Father Schwarz formed C. Y .0., Christian Youth Organization, teaching religion - taking youth to camps and skiing trips.

In 1979, Jeff and Rose Trent donated to St. John's Church a new Allen organ in memory of their son Jeffery Earl Trent, who was killed in an accident.

On December 22, 1979, Father C. D. Polk was appointed as Associate Pastor to St. John's to help Father Schwarz. Father Schwarz returned to St. John's after a 60-day sick leave. Father Schwarz was continuing his education and while at St. John's received two degrees as an educator. He received his degree in business administration just at the time when it was necessary to put it to use. He doubled as pastor and school's certified principal. This was possible while Father Polk served our parish as an Associate Pastor from 1979 to 1983. In the mornings Father Schwarz would teach religion to all six grades. October 25, 1982, St. John's celebrated Father Polk's Silver Jubilee to priesthood in the parish hall.
